3 Ways to Style Your Little Black Dress
So I raided my sister’s closet before she moved to Pennsylvania haha; and by little sister, I mean she is younger, but she is actually 25 years old, so not so little. Well, she gave me the dress since she knows I really like it, and it fits me very well. My little sister and I are the same size in dresses, shoes, skirts, and blouses. We have very similar taste too. Isn’t it fun when you exchange clothes with your sister? I do miss her and I hope that one day she moves back to the twin cities. Fashion is so much fun when you can share your passion with your sisters.
Once I saw this dress I was pretty much in love with it. To me it was the perfect short black dress because of the cuts and the way it makes my body look. Black clothing is one of my favorite colors to wear. It looks classic, it makes you look slimmer and elegant. Plus, now and days we are all neutral fanatics.
Now that you all know the story behind the dress I can now tell you the reason behind this photo-shoot. I wanted to show you guys how to take a simple black dress and make several looks with it. Sometimes we lack imagination and we run out of ideas, but this post will help you get some ideas on how to use your black dress in several ways.
Since I am an insatiable workaholic, I wanted my first look to be a business look. You can definitely wear your little black dress to work and make it look professional. I am used to always being busy and once I am done with my work day, in the afternoons I work some more. And on a hot summer day wearing a dress can be perfect for meetings, it looks elegant but it keeps you fresh since the fabric of the dress is lightweight. You can combine your dress with a black blazer, gold stud black shoes, and with a big red Guess bag like mine. I am feeling like a gladiator in a suit; get the reference? Aka: Scandal haha. Also, never forget your sunnies people! Wear a black pair of sunglasses; it makes you look more authoritative. When wearing accessories keep it simple, and wear small earrings, and a watch. A watch is a must for me to complete a business outfit. For hairstyle I always want to make it look effortless. But if you are curious, I blow dried my hair, then I used a curling iron to make some cute waves, and then I pinned it back. Probably, length wise, this dress will not be appropriate for all professions, but you can wear a black dress that suits your lifestyle, and my tips can give you a few ideas of how to style it.

Turn your business look to casual.
After work, if you need to tone it down and run some errands, like a quick stop at whole foods or meet with friends for happy hour, but want a more comfortable look this is a very good alternative for a casual look. Let your hair loose, change your accessories up, change your heels for platforms, and switch your blazer for a long cardigan. I also changed my red Guess bag for a canvas print Guess bag. Can you tell that I love guess bags? This cardigan is very comfortable and soft. I like stripes as you know, so it’s no surprise that I combined my black dress with a striped cardigan. The settle mustard color with the white stripes combines perfectly with my bag and everything else I am wearing. My navy color platforms are Michael Kors.

Make the black dress a party dress.
If you have to go to a party, choosing a black dress once in a while is always a good alternative. It will make your tan skin stand out, makes you look more elegant, slim and won’t cost you a dime. Some people might think that wearing a black dress can be boring, but ladies if you have ever read a fashion book, you will know that there is a trick called dressing up and dressing down. So what you will do to turn a simple black dress to party mode is to dress it up. Wear it without any blazers or cardigans. Put on high dressy heels and put on some big earrings. I like the big pageant earrings. Switch your neutral lipstick for a more vibrant color, and apply a bit more bronzer and highlight. I am wearing a MAC color lipstick. Also, switch your bag for a clutch. A sparkly clutch dresses up the overall look. You don’t have to spend much on clutches. I have seen a lot of beautiful clutches for such an inexpensive price. I would recommend going to Marshalls, Charlotte Ruse, Forever 21, even Express.
